Ardennes

Name of Breed: Ardennes or Ardennais 

Height: 15 to 16 hands

Colors: Chestnut, Gray, Bay, Roan, or Palomino.

Physical Characteristics: Small and pointed ears, broad, muscular, and compact body, short legs, and small hooves in comparison to body size. 

Additional Info: Docile temperament, strong, and agile. Favored by Napoleon and Caesar found them to be good Calvary horses.

Trakehner Horse

Name of Breed: Trakehner Horse

Height: 15 to 17 hands

Colors: All solid colors but most commonly: Bay, Gray, Chestnut, Black, and Roan

Physical Characteristics: Refined head with large eyes, long legs, long sloping shoulders, and crested neck. 

Additional Info: They are keen, alert, and fast learners. They are premier athletes. They are competitive and high-spirited.

Hackney Horse and Pony

Name of Breed: Hackney Horse and Hackney Pony

  

Height: Hackney Ponies are under 14.2 hands. Hackney Horses are 14.2 - 17 hands.

Colors: Black, Bay, Brown, or Chestnut. Can have white markings.

Physical Characteristics: High tail carriage, broad and defined chest, compact body, round ribs, compact head, and long neck.

Additional Info: The essential difference between a Hackney  Horse and a Hackney Pony is size. They are gaited and often used as carriage horses.

Barb Horse

Name of Breed: Barb Horse or Berber Horse

Height: 13.2 to 15.2 hands

Colors: Gray, Black, Brown, Buckskin, and Bay.

Physical Characteristics: Short back, low tail carriage, sound hooves, pronounced withers, and narrow head.

Additional Info: This is a lively African breed with great stamina.

Percheron Horse

Name of Breed: Percheron

Height: 15 - 19 hands

Colors: Typically gray or black, but can be chestnut, sorrel, bay, or roan as well.

Physical Characteristics: Large head, full face, big hip, level croup, wide and deep chest, and strong, emphasized muscles.  

Additional Info: From the Perche province in France, where it derives its name. 
Typically used as driving, sleighs, hayrides, forestry, farm work, and parades. The breed is built to be a work horse to pull heavy loads. They are sometimes ridden or compete in show jumping as well.

Belgian Horse

Name of Breed: Belgian Horse, Belgian Draft Horse, Brabant, or Brabançon.
Was called the Flanders horse in the middle ages.

 Height: Usually between 15 - 17 hands but they can be much larger. The tallest Belgian horse is slightly over 20 hands high, which is the world record. His name is Big Jake, find out more by clicking the link below under "Additional Info". 

Colors: Typically brown, chestnut  or sorrel but they can be found in other colors as well. 

Physical Characteristics: Well-muscled croup, rounded hindquarters, compact, short and strong legs, wide in the front, the head is small in relation to the body, and the often have some feathering on the legs.

Irish Sport Horse

Name of Breed: Irish Sport Horse or Irish Hunter

Height: 15 to 17 hands

Colors: Any color

Physical Characteristics: Long, sloping shoulders, long croup (helps with jumping), high withers, strong bones, and strong neck.

Additional Info: This horse is a crossbred between an Irish Draught and a Thoroughbred or and Irish Draught and a European Warmblood. They have outstanding jumping ability. They are strong, calm, athletic, and intelligent.

Welsh Pony

Name of Breed: Welsh Pony

Height: Less than 12.2 hands.

Colors: Most solid colors. Gray, Chestnut, Bay, White, etcetera  They can't be excessively marked with white or pinto colors.

Physical Characteristics: Small ears, alert eyes, deep and sloping shoulders, and small hardy legs and hooves.

Additional Info: There are four different sections to register this breed under depending on the line it descended from. As you can see from the pictures there are different builds for this breed's sections. One of these sections include the Welsh Cob section.
